Making wholesale more profitable

Scamp & Dude, the iconic clothing brand

When the Scamp & Dude kidswear brand took off on social media, the business experienced rapid growth! We stepped in to help them make the wholesale side of the business more profitable, before moving on to range planning, critical paths and more.

Since launching, kidswear brand Scamp & Dude has become iconic. The proof? Over 110k followers on Instagram, and the dubious compliment of having to take on high street giants who were copying their products (to their detriment!).

Founder Jo Tutchener-Sharp started the business following a serious illness, wanting to do something worthwhile and for her kids to feel close to her when she was away from them in hospital. The clothing she came up with features a ‘superpower button’ which kids can press whenever they need a boost – and needless to say it was a success!

As the business grows, Jo and the business continue that original spirit of giving back through charitable donations such as their “Swag Bags with Purpose” collaborations with celebs.

Challenge

I’d been following Scamp & Dude’s early progress on Instagram, so I was delighted when Jo DM’d us asking for merchandising help.

Our work together began by reviewing how Flourish could help Jo make the wholesale side of her business more profitable. We looked at where to negotiate and which accounts would help her brand to grow, rather than diluting her impact.

Solution

Since then, I’ve guided the business through overhead costs, margin targets and other ad hoc queries.

I’ve built range plans and critical paths to help the team manage their products, and I created the Scamp & Dude ‘shopping list’ for AW20, so that Jo knew how many of those iconic leopard print and lightning bolt sweatshirts to buy.

“When we were a start up, Sarah was so good at teaching us how to do things properly from a merchandising point of view. She was a great support to us until we were at the position to bring on our own in-house merchandiser.
I’d highly recommend her.”

—JO TUTCHENER-SHARP, FOUNDER

The next chapter

Jo has now grown the business to the point where she employs an in-house merchandiser, proving just how valuable merchandising is!

So, whilst this collaboration has reached a natural end, I’m still excited to watch the brand grow (and my wardrobe – 3 sweatshirts and counting...).
